On Friday, Feb. 20th, 2014 The Just Pay for All coalition received the Woods Fund of Chicago's "Power of Community Award" at the 20th annual Chicago Neighborhood Development Awards. CTU was a founding member of the Just Pay for All coalition in 2009 along with Latino Union, Chicago Workers Collaborative, and Working hands Legal Clinic. In 2010 Just Pay for All was successful in passing some of the strongest anti-wage theft legislation that consisted of ammendments to the Wage Payment and Collection Act. These important worker protections have been used as a model for legislative reform across the country. Congratulations and great work just Pay for All!
This is the first year the Chicago Neighborhood Development Awards has honored work for community organizing. We would like to thank everyone who made this possible: The Woods Fund, LISC Chicago, and all of the committee judges for recognizing the importance of community organizing with this award. Stopping workplace exploitation and wage theft are the first steps in just and sustainable community development.
We would like to honor and thank all of the immigrant workers who took the lead to advocate for change that positively affects all workers. Without the courage and expertise of our grasroots leaders, this work would not be possible! Felicidades!
