Workers Fight For Their Rights Against Tacos Nietos on Chicago’s East Side
Tacos Nietos is a local establishment on Chicago’s Southeast side located at 3335 E 106th St. Centro de Trabajadores Unidos: Immigrant Workers’ Project (CTU-IWP) supported the introduction of a lawsuit against Tacos Nietos with a public gathering of community residents. Wage-theft and other forms of worker exploitation often go unchallenged due to retaliation and the difficulty in finding other employment.
Here are the violations that Tacos Nietos management has committed in the past and continues to present:
- Paying lower than the Chicago and State MINIMUM WAGE
- Not paying workers for OVERTIME PAY worked
- Denying workers their right to a LUNCH BREAK
- INTIMIDATING workers that ask for their labor rights to be respected and upheld
CTU-IWP will coordinate with workers to fix the issues at Tacos Nietos and send a message to other would-be violators. On top of earning at a low pay scale, wage-theft and exploitative conditions suppress low-income workers’ take home salary, despite current labor laws and the recent increase in the city’s minimum wage.
